There are cottages at Darwin Lake village sleeping up to a maximum of nine, so if you take over all 16 houses you can comfortably sleep 102. The cottages are arranged by a small lake around a traditional green, complete with its own old red telephone box, and have been referred to collectively as 'The Emmerdale of the Peak District'.
Seven of the houses are newly built in traditional stone with contemporary interiors. The remaining nine are more established, nevertheless equally lovely, grouped around a courtyard with inspiring views across the water. They are all set in ten acres of private woodland grounds, with more than a holiday's worth of walking and cycling routes from the door. Carsington Water is also close by, and several further reservoirs, watersports, fishing and wildlife centres.

The cottages are an ideal venue for a big group weekend away, a wedding or a holiday. They are all fully equipped for self-catering, having modern kitchens with great facilities. But if you don't feel like preparing meals there are good restaurants and traditional pubs serving food nearby, plus a variety of food stores and takeaways. Location
In the hills above Matlock, next to Darwin Lake. Well situated in relation to road and rail links, only 25 minutes from the M1, yet in fantastic rural surroundings. There is a pub and shop within short walking distance, and further facilities in the local village of Two Dales, just down the hill, and Matlock 3 miles.

Accommodation
The cottages are kept immaculately clean and we provide a high level of service. All the cottages have two, three or four bedrooms and sleep between four and nine guests. Beds are kingsize, regular doubles or twins. All living/dining rooms and kitchens are open plan.
The new cottages have ensuite bathrooms to all bedrooms. The established cottages have one main bathroom and an ensuite to the master bedroom.

Any combination of cottages can be booked together. You can order in your food from Tesco or Sainsbury's, or try Wiltshire Farm Foods or Peak District Fine Foods for some excellent ready meals, hampers and treats.
Facilities
All the cottages have TVs, CD, radio and DVD players, fridge/freezers, washer dryers, microwaves and central heating. The larger cottages also have dishwashers and NEW cottages have DVD players.
High chairs and cots are available on request, and extra Z-beds and cots can be supplied. Wi Fi internet access is available in certain cottages and the reception area. All heating and hot water, bed linen and towels are included. Picnic tables and barbecues are provided for each cottage.

Area
The Peak District National Park is outstanding walking country, with some 1,400 miles of public rights of way. It also has some of the finest cycling, climbing and caving in England. There are quaint villages and market towns, Stately homes, ancient monuments, scenic drives, waterfalls and some great picnic sites.
Darwin Lake itself used to be part of the Sydnope Hall Estate, owned at one time by Charles Darwin's family, hence the name. Many guests here begin their stay by walking the Darwin Trail, which takes you on a scenic woodland walk right around the lake (approx. ' mile)

The most popular Peak District attractions are within easy reach, including Carsington Water, Chatsworth House (home of the Duke and Duchess of Devonshire), Haddon Hall, the Peak Steam Railway, Bakewell, Matlock Bath, the Heights of Abraham cable cars, Arkwrights Mill and Gulliver's Kingdom theme park.
A little further afield are Alton Tower theme park, Buxton (famous Spa and Opera house), the Blue John Mine, a range of outdoor activity centres and Carsington Water Watersports and Wildlife Centre (with cycle hire and a restaurant too).
Riding and golf are available within three miles, and theres a pub serving food, and local shop just around the corner and also at Matlock, three miles away.
